We're Now
BARE BONES!

September 11, 2007

We aren’t Soup Kitchen any more. We’ve changed our name to Bare Bones. Today.

The name came to me one night about a month ago when Bill and I were singing in the kitchen, and talking about the glories of the unadorned chord. “It’s the bare bones of music,” I said. And then the little light came on. Bare Bones. That’s the name we’ve been waiting for, for 27 years. Sometimes you just have to be patient.

We enjoyed being The Missing Person Soup Kitchen Gospel Quartet, and we enjoyed being Soup Kitchen. But we kind of knew all along that the right name would occur to us some day, and it has. The only problem, of course, is 27 years of history as some variation of The Missing Person Soup Kitchen Gospel Quartet, which, we note with pride, was a name that was nearly impossible to remember. Now some of you may chastise us for breaking down and taking on a name that trips lightly off the tongue. You may accuse us of selling out to some semblance of sanity, something that, for a change, makes sense. Even we have to admit, Bare Bones describes what we do and how we do it.

We’re going to maintain our Website, soupkitchensings.com for a good while longer, even after we establish a new site for Bare Bones. There will be a link, of course, so if you forget what guise we’re going under now, you can always go back to the kitchen. A part of us will always be there.
